Obama balances the playing field for working women

“One of the first order of duties after being sworn into office as the 44th president for Barack Obama was to sign the Lilly Ledberry Fair Pay Act. This legislation was based upon the Equal Pay Act of 1963 which was an amendment to the original Fair Labor Standards Act of 1930. This bill sent a cut & dried order allocating employers to pay their employees equal pay for equal work. Sadly, the majority of businesses& corporations allocating funding for women & minority business owners hardly ever followed those guidelines in their lending practices. Statistically, women own 28% of businesses, but, heads less than 4% of capital backed firms.”

She was then immediately demoted to a position as administrative clerk in the courtroom where she once presided. Dr. Ebadi was hit then by the inequities of women’s rights and inequality in Iran, but she did not let that stop her.”
